Blowout Preventer Annular BOP Packing Element Tapered Rubber
Operational Concept
High-pressure (10.5 Mpa) oil from control systems enters a closed cavity under a piston from the housing oil outlet when wells need to be sealed in case of kicks. This encourages the plastic core to move upward along the ball surface, bringing the bearing tendons closer together and moving the rubber between them to the center of the wellhead, sealing the drilling tools or completely sealing the wellhead. When the wellhead opens, hydraulic pressure from the housing oul inlet enters the open chamber above the piston and pushes it downward, allowing the plastic to reset with its own elasticity.
